Vacancy: Technical Manager – Edinburgh

Boyd Recruitment are currently recruiting on a permanent basis for an independently owned engineering consultancy in Edinburgh. Due to a healthy forward workload our client is currently looking to appoint a Technical Manager to join the Edinburgh Office.

Our client operates across several markets and offer full in-house design services to the commercial, retail, residential, and industrial sectors. The successful candidate will have a fantastic opportunity to work in one of the UK’s leading private Engineering Consultancies.

The Job

As Technical Manager, you will have the following duties:

• Technical lead on projects large and small.

• Assist Director in managing Building Structures team

• Provide technical leadership, providing support, mentoring and guidance to developing team members.

• Liaise with and lead other members of the design team to achieve a coordinated design solution that meets and exceeds the Clients objectives.

• Structural engineering assessment and inspection of new and existing properties in steel, concrete, masonry, and timber.

• Undertake analysis and design using a range of software packages including Tekla Structural Designer.

• Preparation of site appraisals feasibility and pre-planning assessments of building structures and associated infrastructure

• Manage and review reports, designs and drawings completed by team to ensure consistent high quality and compliance with design standards, industry best practice, contractual obligations, and client expectations.

• Manage the inputs from other in-house discipline teams and sub-consultants.

• Liaison with clients, regulators, and other stakeholders.

• Attendance at design meetings, site meetings and carry out site inspections.

• Project management, team management and budgetary control.

• Assist Director in Business development through client liaison, networking and preparation of bids and proposals.

• Deliver work in compliance with Health and Safety legislation and Quality Management procedures.

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s or Masters’ Degree in Structural Engineering Chartered status (MICE or MIStructE).
  • SER Certifier status preferred. Full support and training will be given to progress towards Certifier status, if required.
  • Varied experience in all the common forms of construction and building types.
  • Experience in the use of Eurocodes.
  • Excellent report writing, communication and numerical skills required.
  • Experience of structural analysis design and software essential.
  • Min 5-8 years post chartered experience or 18 years’ experience (Post Graduation) Full clean driving license
