Site-Based Project Manager - Ayrshire

Boyd Recruitment are looking for a site-based Project Manager for a project in Ayrshire. Reporting directly to the Contracts Manager and Contract Director, you will be working in a team, supporting the management and delivery of civil engineering projects. 

The Job

  • Management of the Works Managers, Site Agents, Quality Manager, and site Engineers on the project. These roles will report directly to the Project Manager.
  • Ensuring a “safety first” attitude across all operations to ensure the health and safety of personnel and all working on or visiting site.
  • Ensuring all activities are completed safely in compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring any environmental protection matters are identified and implement the mitigating procedures and systems where appropriate.
  • Ensuring company procedures and systems on quality, health & safety and the environment are implemented and complied with on site.
  • Preparing quality, environmental and H&S construction plans in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with and maintain existing joint venture and client relationships.
  • Planning, measuring, monitoring, and reviewing the progress of the contract throughout the project lifespan and ensuring compliance with project budgets and programme.
  • Managing and ensuring the project delivery team to ensure there are adequate plant, labour, and subcontract resources available in a timely manner to comply with project timescales.
  • Interpreting engineering drawings and specifications and ensuring the accurate construction of the works in accordance with client requirements.
  • Ensuring the timely procurement and payment of suppliers and subcontractors in accordance with company procedures and monitoring and reporting their performance, including financial, throughout the project.
  • Preparing and submitting weekly reports on progress for inclusion in the project’s financial CVRs and forecasts to completion.
  • Identifying potential problem areas, and financial impact, in sufficient time to ensure adequate provisions have been made within forecast accounts.
  • Implementing solutions to resolve operational issues arising on a project.
  • Actively resolve contractual issues with both clients and suppliers while also maintaining a good relationship.
  • Ensuring the timely submission of interim and final accounts and releases of retentions and performance bonds with associated completion certificates.
  • Mentoring and guidance for your team and operatives to fully develop their construction competencies.

The Person 

For this site-based Project Manager role, you will ideally have experience on large windfarm and earth works projects. More generally, you will need to be committed, reliable, flexible both in terms of UK travel (and staying away overnight where required) and range of tasks performed and possess a good team-working ethic.

  • Degree or HND in Civil Engineering
  • Demonstrable experience of working as a Project Manager on civil engineering projects
  • Experience in Design & Build Contracts 
  • Understanding and experience in NEC4 Contracts
  • Strong computer literacy and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Project 2000, Project Costing Software, 
  • Good commercial awareness with effective influencing and negotiating skills, as well as an aptitude to develop emerging and new client relationships.
  • Experience of managing and mentoring site agent and engineers.
  • Excellent knowledge of current civil engineering legislation as well as Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • Highly developed professional communication and negotiation skills, including writing and presentation of reports, preparing business management documents, and presenting information in meetings with clients and other parties.
  • The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.   
  • The ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in both mathematical or diagrammatic form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Demonstrable ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines supported by strong organisational skills. 
  • Excellent communicator, both written and oral, with the ability to adapt communication style to suit different circumstances.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and a willingness to travel and work at UK based sites is also required.
