Health & Safety Manager – Civil Engineering
£50,000 – £55,000 + Car Allowance + Bonus
Based in Ballingry (site-based role)
We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established heavy civils and energy-sector contractor delivering major substation and infrastructure projects across Scotland.
This is a key appointment for the project — a hands-on Health & Safety Manager who can drive standards on site and ensure compliance across all aspects of delivery.
The Role
As Health & Safety Manager, you will take the lead on all HSE matters across a major substation project, working closely with the Project Manager, Site Agent and operational teams.
This is a site-focused role — visible, proactive and embedded in daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Leadership

Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the project HSE strategy

Promote a strong safety culture across all site teams and subcontractors

Provide competent advice to management and operational staff
Compliance & CDM

Ensure full compliance with CDM Regulations and company procedures

Review and approve RAMS, CPPs and risk assessments

Conduct regular site inspections and audits

Manage incident investigations, reporting and corrective actions
Monitoring & Reporting

Track leading and lagging indicators
-
Produce HSE reports for senior management and client review

Identify trends and implement preventative measures
Subcontractor & Stakeholder Management

Monitor subcontractor performance and compliance
-
Attend client and progress meetings as the HSE lead

Liaise with regulatory bodies where required
Training & Engagement

Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and safety briefings

Support development of supervisors and managers in HSE responsibilities

Champion behavioural safety initiatives
What We’re Looking For
-
NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (Diploma preferred)
-
Proven experience in a Health & Safety Manager or Senior Advisor role within heavy civils or infrastructure

Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations

Experience operating in Principal Contractor environments

Confident communicator with the ability to challenge when required

Practical, solutions-focused approach rather than purely theoretical
