Health & Safety Manager – Civil Engineering

£50,000 – £55,000 + Car Allowance + Bonus

Based in Ballingry (site-based role)

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established heavy civils and energy-sector contractor delivering major substation and infrastructure projects across Scotland.

This is a key appointment for the project — a hands-on Health & Safety Manager who can drive standards on site and ensure compliance across all aspects of delivery.

The Role

As Health & Safety Manager, you will take the lead on all HSE matters across a major substation project, working closely with the Project Manager, Site Agent and operational teams.

This is a site-focused role — visible, proactive and embedded in daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety Leadership

  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the project HSE strategy

  • Promote a strong safety culture across all site teams and subcontractors

  • Provide competent advice to management and operational staff

Compliance & CDM

  • Ensure full compliance with CDM Regulations and company procedures

  • Review and approve RAMS, CPPs and risk assessments

  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits

  • Manage incident investigations, reporting and corrective actions

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track leading and lagging indicators

  • Produce HSE reports for senior management and client review

  • Identify trends and implement preventative measures

Subcontractor & Stakeholder Management

  • Monitor subcontractor performance and compliance

  • Attend client and progress meetings as the HSE lead

  • Liaise with regulatory bodies where required

Training & Engagement

  • Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and safety briefings

  • Support development of supervisors and managers in HSE responsibilities

  • Champion behavioural safety initiatives

What We’re Looking For

  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (Diploma preferred)

  • Proven experience in a Health & Safety Manager or Senior Advisor role within heavy civils or infrastructure

  • Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations

  • Experience operating in Principal Contractor environments

  • Confident communicator with the ability to challenge when required

  • Practical, solutions-focused approach rather than purely theoretical

What’s On Offer

  • £50,000 – £55,000 salary

  • Car allowance

  • Performance-related bonus

  • Long-term secured infrastructure work

  • Influence on a high-profile energy-sector project

  • Stable contractor with clear growth plans
