Boyd Recruitment are delighted to be working with a well-established Mechanical & Electrical contractor who are experiencing an exciting period of growth across Scotland.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical Project Manager, or an Electrical Supervisor ready to take the next step, to join a developing Scottish operation and play an important role in its continued growth.
The successful candidate will become an important part of the developing Scottish management team and will have the opportunity to influence how the regional operation grows.
Our client is not necessarily looking for the finished article. They are looking for the right electrical professional with the right technical foundation, attitude, and personality, who wants to take ownership, develop commercially, build strong client relationships, and grow with the business.
The Projects
The Scottish operation is predominantly retail-led, with the successful candidate managing a range of electrical projects for established and growing clients within the retail sector.
Alongside this, the business is continuing to develop its presence within the commercial sector, with a growing client base and increasing opportunities.
This will provide the successful candidate with exposure to a varied project portfolio, working closely with clients and project teams to deliver high-quality electrical installations from start to finish.
The role will therefore suit someone who enjoys a fast-paced, client-focused environment and wants the opportunity to build on their existing experience while developing their commercial and project management capabilities.
The Role
The role will involve the delivery and management of electrical projects, working closely with clients, colleagues, subcontractors and the wider Mechanical, Electrical and Building Services teams.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop across both the operational and commercial sides of the business, with increasing responsibility as they develop.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing electrical projects from inception through to completion.
- Taking ownership of project delivery, programme, quality and performance.
- Managing project costs and developing an understanding of overall financial performance.
- Taking ownership of delivering the required project margin.
- Supporting procurement and managing relationships with suppliers and the wider supply chain.
- Planning labour, materials and resources effectively.
- Coordinating electrical operatives and subcontractors.
- Attending sites when required to oversee project progress and delivery.
- Liaising with clients, contractors and other project stakeholders.
- Attending client, progress, design and handover meetings.
- Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme and to the required quality standards.
- Supporting estimating and tendering activities.
- Developing and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Identifying opportunities for repeat and new business.
- Supporting the continued growth and development of the Scottish operation.
For an experienced Electrical Supervisor stepping into the role, extensive commercial or Project Management experience isn't expected from day one. What is important is that you have the aptitude, ambition, and willingness to learn and develop these areas.
The Type of Person We're Looking For
Technical experience is important, but equally important is the attitude and character of the individual.
We are looking for someone who is:
Humble – approachable, grounded, and willing to listen to others.
Hungry – ambitious, motivated, and prepared to take ownership rather than wait to be told what to do.
Willing to Learn – open to new ideas, feedback, and different ways of working, with a genuine desire to develop both technically and commercially.
Personable – able to build strong relationships with clients, colleagues, operatives, and supply-chain partners.
A Problem Solver – somebody who looks for solutions, takes responsibility, and maintains a positive, can-do approach.
Team Orientated – comfortable working collaboratively across Electrical, Mechanical and Building disciplines rather than operating in isolation.
For the client, humble, hungry, and willing to learn are fundamental characteristics. This applies whether you are already an experienced Electrical Project Manager or an Electrical Supervisor looking to make the step up.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong electrical contracting experience.
- Experience working within retail, commercial, or industrial environments.
- Retail experience would be particularly advantageous.
- A strong technical understanding of electrical installations and project delivery.
- Good leadership and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A commercially aware mindset, or the appetite to develop commercially.
- The ability to take ownership and work proactively.
- A genuine desire to develop and progress.
- Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Relevant electrical qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent.
Additional qualifications such as 2391, HNC, SMSTS, IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous but are not essential.
Client & Business Development
As the Scottish operation continues to develop, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute beyond the day-to-day delivery of projects.
This will include:
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Understanding client requirements and identifying opportunities.
- Supporting estimating and tendering.
- Helping to secure repeat business.
- Developing relationships with new clients and contacts.
- Contributing ideas to the continued growth of the Scottish operation.
Previous experience in all these areas isn't essential. The key is having the personality, commercial awareness, and appetite to develop these skills over time.

This role would suit an individual who wants to take ownership and grow with a business, rather than simply move into another job title.
Whether you're an experienced Electrical Project Manager looking for greater involvement in the development of a regional operation, or an experienced Electrical Supervisor who feels ready to take the next step, the client is interested in speaking with people who demonstrate the right technical foundation, attitude, ambition and personality.
